Jumping Kyu - yoshinkan development

so almost 5 months training aikido and i've taken my secodn grading and got my yellow belt.

lots of falling, rolling, flying and technical wrist/elbow locks learnt and a ridiculous amount more to e discovered.

i love aikido, it doesn't interfere with any of my old injuries and i'm porgessing nicely.

although, i do train every other day, so...

that's about it for now - off to dojo again.

OSU!

left-handed capricorn fire dragon it seems - 12/01/77 - by the chinese zodiac - may explain a few things

Dragon: Jan 31, 1976 to Feb 17, 1977 (fire)

火龙

The Dragon is one of the most exotic and flamboyant of all Chinese astrological signs. Dragons are born leaders and masters of ceremonies. They are idealists, perfectionists, aggressive and determined.

Full of vitality and enthusiasm, the Dragon is a popular individual - even with the reputation of being foolhardy and a "big mouth" at times.

A person born under the dragon is usually fashionable and can adapt to many different styles of life. Using their keen sense of imagination, Dragons are forever dreaming up fresh schemes and ideas for new adventures (which are mostly futile). Unfortunately, they often drive their friends crazy with their "wild" schemes that usually lead to nowhere.

On the good side however, Dragon-types are also surrounded by good fortune, which saves them from making major mistakes. Dragons are the free spirits of the Zodiac and conformation is a Dragon's curse. Rules and regulations are made for other people.

Restrictions blow out the creative spark that is ready to flame into life so Dragons remain free and uninhibited. The Dragon is a beautiful creature - colorful, flamboyant and an extroverted bundle of energy.

Gifted and utterly irrepressible, they are well suited to careers in the theatre, or any place that gives them a leading role.

Although they have the potential for making lots of money, they spend it lavishly on their projects. Dragons are not well suited to growing old and losing power, they lose their temper easily.

Dragons are usually surrounded by admirers and very popular with the opposite sex. They are seldom disappointed in love.

heh...

doin' it for the oldies - another secret garden charity event

we figured the kids have had enough charity for the time being so for chinese new year we've turned our hands to bringing some joy to the oldies.

the latest charity event in conjunction with alicia's boutique was at the rumah charis old folks home where a gang of us did a quick spring clea then knocked up some hand-made chinese new year decorations and put some well deserved smiles on the old aunties n' uncles' faces.

old people are great and always have lots of interesting stories to tell - even if they're in cantonese and i can't understand a word they say.

besides, a smile say a lot more when there's a language barrier so either way we knew that our presence there was more than worthwhile and the oldies most definitely appreciated our help.

next up is a charity dinner hoping to raise some cash to sponsor some new furniture and the likes for the replacement home after the last one burned down.

so Gong Xi Fa Cai to all the old uncles n' aunties in Rumah Charis!

check out the pix on the secret garden multiply blog here:

secret garden

for my last visa run, me n' alicia took a few days out and went to Phuket to chill on the beach.

we left on the morning of new years day.

it was great!

nothing beats a long weekend of eating, sleeping, thai massage and romantic wristlocks along the sea front.

not in my book anyways.

despite being interspersed with the worst of western tourists and getting busted at police roadblocks, we managed to have an amazing time doing not much and taking it very easy.

so here's to starting as you mean to go on and the prospect of a tip top 2008.

sawasdee krap hello massaaaaaaage : D

More charity work in the name of christmas - this time with malaysia's last, latest and next top model

so as part of the 'Merry Love A Child Xmas' plan in conjunction with Alicia's butik, we had our second visit to a local orphanage yesterday.

This time it was a huge event with prezzies galore and lots of activities.

using recycled shoeboxes, we got the kids to all make their own photoframes and decorate them with bits n' bobs we had lying around.

then i toko all of their photos with Malaysian Supermodel Amber Chia.

[she happens to be a friend of Alicia and up for doing some good deeds].

So, 60 kids - take their fotos with amber and print them out on the spot so they can put into their new frames.

once their frames were completed, we gave out presents that had been sponsored by Alicia's customers - and of course the kids loved it.

I loved it, Alicia loved it, Amber loved and all our volunteer helpers loved it too.

It really is such a rewarding experience to hold events like this - no corporate sponsors and no stingey malaysian attitudes - just good natured people wanting to do something worthwhile for underprivileged kids - for the SAKE of it.

so i polished my halo and have been wearing it ever since, feeling happy, proud and ready to punch anyone who dares to scoff at it.

the next event is on 28th Dec with a similar concept, only at a different orphanage.

spread the love yo, for fun and for free.

...

A million thanks to everyone who helped to make the day a true success...see you again next week!

find me a job by friday - sunshine posse, yo

For the last few months i've been writing a lot of nonsense on a facebook group. just random blogs about random things.

luckily, some of the other people in the group own an advertising agency and are looking for whacky humour for a comic strip ad platform.

so they asked me to write some stupid scripts for them - as daft as i could think of.

easy!

so after about a week i'd written 15 already and now they're being shot and laid out to pitch to the clients.

the perfect job?

hope so...

Sunshine Posse comic strips

Aikido Training Manual - i do for fun lor

I've been trianing Aikido now for a few weeks and i'm completely addicted already.

and it's tough!

it's really tough!

but not in a gruelling physical way, but in an inch perfect technique kinda way.

Everything i've ever learned in terms of martial arts and body movement, i'm having to unlearn and start afresh for the sake of this beautiful art.

for one, the whole weight distribution is mostly on the front foot with the knee overextended to the toes.

weird.

so all the movement seems quite unnatural at the moment but i'm adamant i'm gonna get it.

i can see that when the technique is done properly, aikido works effortlessly, harmonising with the attacker's force and using their own momentum against them.

Anyhoos, since i don't really have any paid projects on the go, i offered to make the training manual for the dojo - for fun.

it's great, i get to shoot all the techniques then layout the pages in a swanky jayemmcee.com fashion.

just my cup o' tea.

so that's what i'm doing for the time being, maybe sensei will gimme another free t-shirt when i'm done, maybe not.

either way, i'm making a dam nice looking aikido training manual.

for fun

OSU!
